1b. DSL – uses a dedicated telephone line that can be either shared with an existing phone and/or fax line or a separate one.  The speed depends on the ISP and type of service chosen. 

Typical connection speed – 1 Mbps download, 128 Kbps upload. 

Some providers: SBC, Verizon, etc.

Advantages: 

• High transmission speed.

Disadvantages: 

• Price depends on the maximum transmission speed (bandwidth);

• The client purchases the DSL modem (some ISPs may provide a modem at no cost).
