Backup –
a recent copy of your most valuable data (or all of
your data.)
Reasons
to backup:
-
Prevent
data loss in case of software/hardware malfunction;
-
Restore data in case of accidental file delete;
-
Free
up disk space after backing-up old version files.
Types
of backup storage media/devices:
-
CD-R/RW – the least expensive media and
devices, the media can be stored up to ten years; low price,
compatible with most CD-ROM and DVD-ROM devices;
-
Tape backup – popular in the 70’s and 80’s
– comparatively inexpensive media and devices; low
backup/restore speed;
-
Magneto-optical (zip) – very popular for their
portability – the devices can be connected via a parallel,
serial, or USB port; faster than the tape devices, and slower
than CD-R/RW.
